Admissions

Join Us for Fall 2025

M.S. Priority Application: May 15
Final Deadline: July 1

Applicants have the choice to apply through the Georgetown Graduate Application Portal or the Post Baccalaureate Centralized Application Service (PostbacCAS). Please do not submit applications to both.

Deadlines

October 15

Early Application

Applicants using the Georgetown Graduate Application Portal before this deadline may apply to waive the application fee. You must submit a fee waiver request form and wait for it to be processed before you submit your program application.

May 15

Priority Application

Recommended deadline for scholarship consideration and for international applicants who will need to apply for a U.S. visa.

July 1

Application Deadline

You may still be considered for scholarships.

GeorgeSquared students may choose to apply by May 1 for Summer admission, July 1 for Fall admission, or November 1 for Spring admission. All GeorgeSquared applicants are eligible for our Affiliation-Based Fee Waiver.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis. We will accept applications until July 1 or until our Fall cohort is filled, whichever comes first.

Applications should be submitted and complete (i.e., all materials received) by the deadline. Applications that are submitted but not complete by the deadline (missing transcripts and/or letters of recommendation) will be reviewed as space permits. Once an application becomes complete (all materials received, including transcripts and letters of recommendation), the application will be reviewed by the admissions committee. We strive to return decisions within four weeks of an application becoming complete.

We encourage you to review our available scholarships and consider applying.

Application Requirements

Applicants are to submit all required credentials and supporting documentation no later than the application deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis.

Not sure if you meet the requirements? Visit Which Physiology Program Is Right for You? to compare our program with the Special Master’s Program and the GeorgeSquared certificate program.

A 4-year bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher (across all undergraduate coursework and/or institutions attended). A GPA of 3.3 is competitive; the average incoming GPA of our new students is 3.5. If your GPA is below 3.0, please consider our other physiology options .

Successful completion of all undergraduate pre-health course requirements including two semesters and a lab course in: biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. Completion of a biochemistry course is preferred but not required.

List your postsecondary institutions in your application, and upload a transcript for each institution.

This program requires WES  or NACES  credential evaluation services for international transcripts.

Follow the transcript instructions in Admissions FAQ  to ensure you upload proper documentation.

Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, and may choose to submit a third letter. One of the required letters of recommendation must be from a science professor who had you as a student in a science course (excluding independent research).

Applicants who submit a committee letter are not required to submit letters of recommendation; however, they may choose to submit up to two letters.

For GeorgeSquared ABS students and alumni, one of the letters must be from your assigned letter writer from the ABS program.

For your second letter, we prefer one of the following:

  • An additional science professor who had you as a student in a science class
  • A practitioner who supervised you in a clinical setting
  • A practitioner whom you have shadowed/observed
  • A research mentor/supervisor (faculty member) for wet lab or clinical research

These letters are also acceptable for your second or third letter:

  • A non-practitioner supervisor from clinical setting (for example, a hospital volunteer coordinator)
  • A research mentor/supervisor for “dry lab” or non-science research
  • A professor from a non-science course
  • An academic advisor/faculty mentor who has not had you as a student in a class
  • A supervisor from non-clinical employment or volunteer work

Recommendation writers should not have any familial ties or conflicts of interest in relation to the applicant. They should not be a family member and should not be an employee, business associate, or other professional or personal affiliate of the applicant’s family members.

For any questions or concerns about recommendation writers or possible conflicts of interest, please contact us.

Your statement should be approximately 500-1,000 words – normally one page, not to exceed two. The statement should be similar in length to a professional school application essay (i.e., AMCAS limit is 5,300 characters = ~750 words; AADSAS limit is 4,500 characters = ~675 words).

For those who have previously applied to professional school, you are welcome to submit the same or a similar essay that you previously submitted to AMCAS/AADSAS/AACOMAS/CASPA/etc.

The majority of your statement should address your motivations and preparation to pursue your chosen profession (Why medicine? Why dentistry? Why a Ph.D.?) and then briefly address your motivations and goals for our program.

Your full CV/resume should include all of the following, at a minimum:

  • All work (clinical and nonclinical), research, volunteer, intern, shadowing, and observing experiences with dates (month and year), name of the company/organization, and responsibilities and/or descriptions clearly noted.
  • All shadowing and observing experiences should additionally have number of hours and practitioner names clearly noted.
  • Cumulative GPA for each educational institution listed.
    • Cumulative GPAs listed on the resume should include all coursework, not just coursework in your major field of study.
    • The required minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA for our program is 3.0. The recommended minimum cumulative GPA is 3.3. We calculate cumulative GPA from all coursework completed across all undergraduate institutions attended..
  • Minimum acceptable font size is 11pt. If necessary, please allow your CV/resume to span more than one page in order to include all requested details while maintaining readable font sizes and spacing.
  • Each section of the resume should have the most recent experiences listed first, which is the most common way to organize a resume (chronologically, with experiences listed from most recent to oldest).

The application fee is nonrefundable but limited application fee waivers may be available. View information about the application fee .

Applicants to any Georgetown program may choose to submit an Optional Statement with their application that addresses diversity, personal background and contributions to community. A detailed prompt for the statement can be found in the application.

We encourage you to consider applying for the Hoyas for Science Scholarship , offered through Georgetown Biomedical Graduate Education. Please note that the scholarship has a similar prompt to the Optional Statement, and you can incorporate your Optional Statement text into your essay for this scholarship application.

GRE and MCAT scores are not required, but we encourage applicants to report these scores if they are available.

If you have previously submitted an AMCAS or AACOMAS medical school application(s), you may include it/them in your application.

All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Follow the TOEFL/IELTS instructions in Admissions FAQ  to determine whether you need to send us test scores to prove your English language proficiency.

International Applicants

Please note that the visa application process can take weeks or months and varies based on your country of origin. To help ensure that students receive their visas in time for registration, the program suggests that applications to the program should be completed by the May 15 priority deadline. In the event that visas are not received in time, admitted students may defer their admission one time to a future open term. There is no additional admissions application fee charge for the one-time deferral.

For more information for international applicants, please see our Biomedical Graduate Education International Applicants page.

International applicants interested in pursuing medical school in the U.S. should carefully read the AAMC’s website regarding the limitations and restrictions for international students in the medical school admissions process.

Tuition & Scholarships

Please visit our Degree Plans page for tuition and fees information.

Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE) offers scholarships to incoming master’s students based on merit and service. Scholarship applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and awarded subject to funding availability, so we recommend that you apply as soon as possible after submitting your program application. BGE also offers merit-based scholarships to a limited number of Master of Science students based on programs’ recommendations.

*NEW* Dean’s Excellence Merit Scholarship

The BGE Dean’s Excellence Merit Scholarship is awarded to eligible master’s students who demonstrate outstanding academic promise based on their verified undergraduate GPA. Dean’s Excellence Scholars receive a scholarship to apply toward their first-semester tuition costs.

Financial Aid

Students may wish to apply for federal loans, private loans or outside scholarships. It is recommended that you begin the process of applying for federal financial aid as soon as possible after applying for admission. You may use the Estimated Cost of Attendance information in determining loan amounts; this program falls under Biomedical Graduate Education > Biomedical Graduate Programs (distinct from the Special Master’s Program).

Students who have been accepted to the GeorgeSquared summer cohort and are applying for financial aid will also need to fill out a Georgetown University Graduate Summer Aid Application, which can be found at the bottom of the applying for financial aid page.

Note: Financial aid for students in our program is under the purview of the Main Campus Office of Student Financial Services – not the School of Medicine office. If you have filled out financial aid forms for Georgetown University School of Medicine, you must also fill out the Main Campus forms. Otherwise, your financial aid could be seriously delayed.

For more information and to obtain financial aid forms, please contact osfsgradfinaid@georgetown.edu.
